Rhinoplasty

Surgery used to decrease or increase the size of the nose, modify its shape or improve some disorders of air obstruction in the nose.

It is important to consider that the nose is the central element in the face. For this reason, on the one hand, it modifies the appearance of the entire face but, on the other, it must be in harmony with the entire face. For this reason you should study not only the nose, but its relationship with the jaw region as well as the jaw including the chin. With rhinoplasty you can thin the tip, rectify or increase the back, modify the angles of the nose in relation to the forehead or upper lip as well as rectify the nostrils. With respect to the septum, or sheet that separates the nostrils, the irregularities that disrupt the air column can be improved as well as treat the turbinates.

The projection of the nose on the back and tip is examined, if there are deviations, if the septum is in position or there is an alteration of the air column in the nose. The proportion of the nose in relation to the entire face is also evaluated. All drugs that increase bleeding such as aspirin, anti inflammatory, vitamin E, omega 3, ginko biloba should be discontinued. Stop smoking at least 2 weeks before surgery. Do not apply makeup on the day of surgery and only take the medications indicated by the anesthesiologist.

Septorinoplasty is usually done under general anesthesia but can be performed under local anesthesia especially in nasal tip surgery. The surgery is usually ambulatory and lasts approximately 2-4 hours depending on the case. This surgery can be combined with maxillary interventions and / or chin prosthesis placement.

Esta cirugía puede combinarse con intervenciones de los maxilares y/o colocación de prótesis de mentón.

You can go out with the somewhat blocked nostrils, and you should breathe through your mouth. You will have facial swelling the first 4 days and then it will decrease. You should take care of the bandages and avoid wetting or moving them. There may be little bleeding, which is normal, if this persists, consult your Plastic Surgeon. If you have sneezing you should do it with your mouth open to avoid pressure on the nose. You should rest with the head lifted during the first day. Your plastic surgeon will determine the time of use of nasal bandages and / or cast. The plugs will be removed on average from 1 to 6 days. Do not receive sun for 6 weeks; use sunscreen for 3 to 6 months. You can return to your daily activities 1 to 2 weeks later. Avoiding strong physical activity for 2-3 weeks, may favor bleeding or nasal trauma. Contact sports should be avoided in the first 3 months minimum.

In patients with seizures there may be a risk of aspirating the tamponade. However, if these medical conditions are adequately controlled and your surgery is performed by a qualified Plastic Surgeon and you adequately follow the instructions and instructions given by this, the risks and complications are rare and minimal. Approximately 15% of cases require revisions to correct minor imperfections which is not considered a complication. There may be changes in the healing of the nose, irregularities or edema (swelling) in certain areas of the nose. If rectifications of the septum are made, it may happen that the growth pattern of the septum is not modified with surgery and returns to deviate.
