Blepharoplasty

Procedure aimed at removing excess skin and handling the fatty bags of both the upper and lower eyelids to improve the appearance of tired eyes and make them look younger and fresher.

With aging, exposure to ultraviolet rays, the force of gravity and expression wrinkles cause the skin of the eyelids to lose their elasticity. This decreases the tonicity of the skin and the fatty pockets are evident in both the upper and lower eyelids. For this same reason it is found that there is excess skin in the upper eyelid because all the tissues have descended as in the lower eyelid the bag descends fat from the malar region (cheekbones).

Report on your medical conditions such as thyroid, cardiovascular, circulatory problems, diabetes, high blood pressure, eye diseases. Your eyelids will be assessed by determining which option is best for you. If you smoke, take medications such as aspirin, anti-inflammatories, vitamin E, corticosteroids or have spontaneous or prolonged bleeding, tell your plastic surgeon, it is important to avoid complications in surgery.

It lasts approximately 1 to 2 hours, it can be performed on an outpatient basis with local or general anesthesia. In surgery, the excess skin is dried and is used at this time to remove or redistribute excess fat bags if there are any, and repair the muscle if it deserves it. The scars are naturally hidden in the palpebral fold in the case of the upper eyelids and below the implantation of the lower eyelashes.

You will have swelling around the eyes during the first 4 days and then it will decrease. Do not make great visual effort the first 2 days postoperatively and apply cold compresses protecting the skin from cold burns. During the 1st week stitches will be removed, and you can restart your daily activities. If you wear contact lenses you will have to wear glasses for the first 2 weeks and do not perform strong physical exercises during this time, or use a swimming pool, it can favor inflammation and infection.

If medical conditions are adequately controlled, your surgery is performed by a qualified Plastic Surgeon and you properly follow the instructions and indications, the risks and complications are rare and minimal.
